HUSTLE DANCING

Line dance supports healthy aging, brain memory, flexibility, and balance, plus reduces STRESS.
In class we will do old and new dances through a variety of music genres. Classes are one hour long with a menu of warmups, demos, and cool down all done through dancing.

Discover the power of words and the pursuit of linguistic justice in this Winter 2024 Workshop: Linguistic Justice-Community and Writing, presented by Wayne State University Community and Writing Program in partnership with The Hannan Center’s Beyond You initiative. This eight-week co-educational workshop, led by facilitators Ms. Jessica Ridgeway and Pat Baldwin, aims to address critical issues of linguistic racism, cultural diversity, and community engagement. Through readings, discussions, and hands-on projects, participants will delve into the rich tapestry of language, exploring the historical, cultural, political, and racial dimensions of Black Language and its impact on marginalized communities. This course empowers students to become active citizens within their communities, working to dismantle anti-Black linguistic racism and racial hierarchies. Join them on Thursdays from 1:00-2:15 PM to be part of this transformative journey, fostering understanding and creating meaningful change in today’s challenging linguistic landscape.

Take charge of your health! Join us for a Six-Week Workshop Wednesdays from 10-11:30a.m.

At Hannan Center, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan will present a workshop helping participants, or family members, learn how to:

  • Monitor blood pressure
  • Cope with stress
  • Make healthy food choices
  • Create a physical activity plan
  • Manage your medications
  • Keep personal action plans – and more

High blood pressure control will help you build skills and tools to manage your hypertension (“hbp”) and live a healthier life. It is a fun, interactive, eight week workshop led by certified leaders.

This group is a collaboration with MiGen and is for Detroit’s LGBTQ and Same Gender Loving older adults to learn about important issues that may impact their lives and to socialize with one another in a safe, supportive environment. Complimentary dinner provided.

In this workshop, participants learn about methods used by identity thieves to steal personal information and how to protect themselves. It will also be explained what personal information is at risk and the red flags to watch out for with regard to common identity scams.

Debt Management
Thursday, October 3 | Time: 10AM-11AM
Participants will explore common reasons why people find themselves in debt and the most common types of debt. They will also describe the value of using debt management strategies such as loan consolidation, budgeting, and debt management plans. Finally, participants will compare various debt management solutions and create a personal plan about how to manage their debt.

Learn to understand the value of creating a budget and develop strategies to build a simple budget and pay off debt. Join us to also learn some core habits to practice and maintain financial health.
