Listed below  is a list of the typical volunteer opportunities we offer at Hannan. In addition to them we also have opportunities for event support.

For all volunteers, the Hannan Center staff will provide supervision, support, and training. Information on volunteerism principles, rights, and responsibilities will also be provided to ensure a successful and rewarding volunteer experience.

Overall, as an inclusive and empowering space, Hannan expects all volunteers to demonstrate respect for different cultures, social and economic backgrounds, ages, and disabilities.

  • Caregiver Mentoring is a service offered through Hannan Center’s Social Work Department’s Peer- to-Peer Program. Mentors support and assist caregivers to better fulfill their roles caring for their loved ones. The volunteers will be seasoned caregivers–current or former and will mentor their less experienced peers. The mentors will share caregiving knowledge, resources and experiences to guide their mentees in their new caregiving role. They will structure the mentoring contacts to their liking and as they determine to be beneficial. Ideal volunteers will embody the friendly and caring environment of the Hannan Center and invite participation for mentoring.

  • The Zena Baum Service Center is one of the cornerstones of the Hannan Center’s Social Work Department. The volunteer will primarily support the operations of the Zena Baum Center and assist the Social Work staff with client services. The Zena Baum Center includes a call-in line for services and referrals, legal clinic appointments, service coordination by appointment, as well as distribution of emergency funds and resources. Volunteers will assist Hannan staff in working with clients to meet their needs. The ideal candidate will understand how to provide excellent customer service and will embody the friendly and welcoming environment of the Hannan Center in person and with telephone contact with clients.

  • NextShift is a support program for working caregivers—those who are employed full time and are caring for disabled older adults in their homes, assisted living, and/or nursing homes. Volunteers will assist the Social Work staff with program marketing and promotion for increasing program participation. Volunteers will also support staff who have appointments with caregivers.

  • The Friendly Companion services are offered through Hannan Center’s Peer-to-Peer Program and is one of the services for assisting seniors who are struggling to maintain their independence in their homes. The volunteers will make scheduled home visits to the homes of older adults whom are living independently in the community and need in-home help. The Friendly Companion volunteer will provide assistance with community living tasks and home chores. The Volunteers will not provide any direct personal care services, interact or respond to situations beyond the scope of a Friendly Companion.

  • Gallery docents take time to learn everything they can about an exhibit—its art and artist(s). They provide guided tours, fun facts, and information to gallery visitors. Docents interact a great deal with gallery visitors act as a representative for the Kayrod Gallery. Docents are needed during regular gallery hours as well as during exhibition opening receptions.

  • Lifelong Learning Center Volunteers will primarily perform class Aides to support the operations of Lifelong Learning programs. Volunteers assist in planning, preparation, and logistical arrangements for workshops, classes and events both on-site and off- site. The Volunteers will act as a representative for the Lifelong Learning Center when requested to do so at appropriate meetings and events.

  • The Outreach Ambassador is one of the key faces of the Hannan Center in the community. The volunteers will interact with participants in the Hannan Center building and in the community to promote services, programs and events and .to increase the number of programs and event participants. Volunteers will be most active in the community. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills to educate people about the various Hannan Center programs and attract new consumers to the Hannan Center. Outreach volunteers will also work with staff of the various Departments to assist with outreach activities. The Volunteers will receive training for serving as Ambassadors.   • The Clerical Volunteer’s primary responsibility is to serve as an office Aide to help Hannan staff with routine operations and activities. Volunteers will work under the supervision of Department Directors and/or administrative staff. Volunteers will be cross trained and work together with program staff to meet the clerical and customer service needs of the Departments of Administration, Arts and Culture, Marketing/Fund Development, Social Work and the Volunteer Program.

  • Marketing and communications are used to promote and support the programs and services offered by the various Departments at the Hannan Center. The ideal Marketing and Communications volunteer understands the importance of marketing and spreading information about the Hannan Center’s values and mission. The volunteer will work directly with the Director of Fund Development and Communications to assist with the functions of this department for promoting and publicizing/advertising Hannan programs and events. The volunteer will work with outreach volunteers as needed.

  • Research is vital to Hannan’s communications and fund development efforts. It helps to secure financial support for the programs/services offered by the Hannan Center as well as provides information for blogging, newsletters, social media and other communications that establish the Hannan Center voice.   • The Volunteer Program Aide will provide support to the oversight of all volunteer programming and coordination. The major duties will be to assist with program management operations, policies and procedure compliance and assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and service assignments. The Program Aide will work with staff of the Hannan Center Departments to support volunteer performance within the various Departments when assigned. The Aide will also act as a representative for the Volunteer Program Coordinator in various settings when requested to do so.

  • Greeters work various floors of the Hannan Center, but primarily the first floor near the front and back doors. They welcome people into the building and assist in guiding them to their destination. Greeters are prepared with relevant information about daily programming and events so that they can invite individuals to attend. Greeters ensure that no one entering the Hannan Center is confused about where to go and feels a sense of belonging at Hannan.
