Led by Suzanne Honda – Lead Teaching Artist Fellow

Join InsideOut Literary Arts for a 10-Session Poetry and Performance Workshop.

These sessions will be facilitated by one of our professional Writers-in-Residence, Suzanne Honda and a special guest teaching artist from Citywide Poets. All sessions will be designed to engage both first-time and experienced writers. Participants will explore a variety of poetic tools and strategies for exploring our memories and experiences through the act of writing creatively.

The program will conclude with an in-person, intergenerational poetry performance.

Materials: Composition notebook and writing utensils

Come to the Kayrod Gallery for the ‘Dolls in the D’ Exhibit. This exhibit is just in time as you can also purchase dolls through the Kayrod Gallery Gift Shop! There will be artists onsite selling art as well. Come on out for an exciting opening night!

Explore the intricate world of dolls through this captivating art exhibit that showcases a diverse collection of historical, fashionable, collectible, craft, and unique figures.

This display celebrates doll makers, doll artistry, history, diversity and invites visitors to appreciate the unique story each doll tells.

If  you miss the opening, don’t despair, the exhibit will be open 10am – 3pm weekdays through Monday, January 15, 2024.

This group is a collaboration with MiGen and is for Detroit’s LGBTQ and Same Gender Loving older adults to learn about important issues that may impact their lives and to socialize with one another in a safe, supportive environment. Complimentary dinner provided.

Meets in person the third Thursday of each month from 5PM-7:30PM.

Thursday, September 19 | Time: 10AM-11AM
In this workshop, participants learn about methods used by identity thieves to steal personal information and how to protect themselves. It will also be explained what personal information is at risk and the red flags to watch out for with regard to common identity scams.

Debt Management
Thursday, October 3 | Time: 10AM-11AM
Participants will explore common reasons why people find themselves in debt and the most common types of debt. They will also describe the value of using debt management strategies such as loan consolidation, budgeting, and debt management plans. Finally, participants will compare various debt management solutions and create a personal plan about how to manage their debt.

Financial Exploitation of Seniors – Older adults can often become targets of criminals wanting to exploit and steal your hard-earned resources. This workshop teaches you about the various types of financial exploitation and how you can protect yourself from becoming a victim.

Budgeting
Thursday, November 21 | Time: 10AM-11AM
Learn to understand the value of creating a budget and develop strategies to build a simple budget and pay off debt. Join us to also learn some core habits to practice and maintain financial health.
