ELLEN KAYROD GALLERY

Named after the former Executive Director of the Hannan Foundation, the Gallery has been exhibiting the work of Detroit-area artists age 60 and up since the early 1990s.

Local artist Mary Herbeck has been the Curator of Exhibitions since July 2003.

Artists are invited to participate in group exhibitions which take place three times each year: in the spring, late summer and winter. To receive a Call for Entries please contact Mary Herbeck with your name, address and phone number.

CURRENT AND UPCOMING GALLERY EXHIBITIONS:

 

July 9 – August 20, 2010: All Media Group Exhibition

Hibernation, mixed media, Cheryl Phillips

 

This exhibit is open to Detroit-area artists age 60 and over.  An afternoon reception is scheduled for Friday July 9th from 12:30-2:30pm, with a performance by Bandolero Duran.

August 27 – October 8, 2010: 7th Annual Intergenerational Community Exhibition
This invitational exhibit features work by artists of all ages who are active members of the Detroit art community. An evening reception is scheduled for Friday September 17th from 5-8pm. More details to be announced.

NO FALL EXHIBIT

December 10, 2010 – January 21, 2011: 8th Annual Sight Fest All Media Exhibition
This exhibit is open to Detroit area artists age 60 and over. An afternoon reception is scheduled for Friday December 10th from 12:30-2:30. More details to be announced.

KING ARTHUR: PORTABLE MURALS FROM BURTON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL BY DENNIS ORLOWSKI

A retired Detroit public school art teacher, Orlowski is well-known fior his murals that grace many public buildings and sites throughout southeastern Michigan - most notably in Hamtramck and Detroit, and internationally in Germany and Mexico.  Adept and prolific, Orlowski methodically prepares, researches and completes murals on all scales, including many of epic proportions.

Totem Urban Cave Dwelling

Noted artist Robert Bielat has been creating sculpture for more than forty years, and has exhibited widely in the Detroit area and throughout the State. His masterful bi-metal castings and constructions of steel objects and stone reveal a raw formality that attempts to reconcile the “tension between man, nature and technology, acknowledging our human imprint on the past, and reminding us that we are the creators of our future” (RB).

6TH ANNUAL INTERGENERATIONAL COMMUNITY EXHIBITION

Participants in the 2009 Intergenerational Community Exhibition are:

Christine Bossler, Barbara Dorchen, Jerome Ferretti, Ray Katz, Emily Linn, Nicole MacDonald, Mario Moore, Sabrina Nelson, SiouxTrujillo, and Anahli Vazquez. The artists range from the young and emerging to the established veterans, and their work includes body ornament, paintings, sculpture, installation, assemblage, collage, drawings and photography.
